SETUP: player 1 with the ball is on the wing, X1 is on defense. The coach is on top.
GOAL: 1 on 1 closeout (offense and de- fense).
DESCRIPTION: 1 passes the ball to C and he receives immediately the pass back. As soon as 1 passes the ball, X1 runs to touch the line, he recovers on 1 and play defense.
GAME: the offensive player wins if he scores a basket, if he’s fouled or if he gets an offensive rebound. Defensive player wins if he steals the ball, gets the rebound or the ball goes out of bounds. Who wins starts on offense the next action.
CORRECTIONS
OFFENSE: be ready to shoot and attack the shoulder of the defender imme- diately.
DEFENSE: recover quickly, last steps are short (feet are quick and butt is down). A hand stays up to contest the shot (do not jump, box out after the shot).
SETUP: 1 with the ball is under the basket, 2 is ready to play defense in front of him.
GOAL: 1 on 1 offense and defense on the ball.
DESCRIPTION AND GAME: the game is played inside of the lane. 2 on defense has to force 1 to crossover and change his direction of dribble. In the first diagram you can see that player 1 is forced to crossover 3 times.
CORRECTIONS DEFENSE: ■ defensive position "wall". Create contact with the offense with a forearm. ■ Follow the ball with the other hand. ■ Feet are quick, butt is down. ■ Box out.
The game goes on with 1 giving the ball to 2 and playing defense on him. 2 starts on the top: he can dribble once for each crossover he forced to his opponent: in the example, 2 can dribble 3 times to attack the basket.
